Cante Alentejano is a polyphonic vocal practice from southern Portugal, recognized as an Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2014.

It has always served as a vehicle for expressing a strong social conscience. At the same time, it is a practice that, due to its collective and voluntary nature, helps to keep alive, within the communities in which it operates, the notion that cohesion (of all voices) is essential to the maintenance of the social fabric!

Celina da Piedade is a musician and researcher. She has dedicated much of her work to researching and disseminating the Alentejo's musical heritage.

In this get-together, she will present some of the many “rural songs” / “modas” that make up the Alentejo songbook, show the main musical and poetic characteristics of this vocal practice and, above all, make everyone experience with their united voices the strength of Cante!

Celina da Piedade, anyone who has seen her in concert recognizes her immense charisma. Celina da Piedade has been carrying her accordion and her voice to the most different contexts, somewhere between the traditional shapes and colours, on journeys through the memories of portuguese rooted music and a more modern and universalist feeling. She draws music full of soul and personality, which, on stage, wins with her formidable presence.
