Campo - Documentary / HD / 100’ / 2019 (english subtitles)
The word 'campo' (field) comes from the Latin ‘capere’ (to capture). “Campo de Marte” (The Field of Mars) was in the ancient times Rome’s training arena for war. At the outskirts of Lisbon, “Campo” hosts today Europe’s largest military base. In this place military troops train fictional missions, astronomy aficionados observe the stars and a boy plays the piano for the wild deers lurking in the dark. In here, I saw life manifesting itself with its contradictory and mysterious dimensions. CAMPO reflects on the nature of the mundane and the transcendental, as they reveal themselves inextricably intertwined.

J.Reis - 5'22' / 2020
At the invitation of Companhia da Chanca, Tiago Hespanha came to Penela in 2020 to create short videos in local businesses. Here's what came out of the visit to the J.Reis hardware house in the urban center of Penela. The infinity of methodically organized products. Wisdom in advice. The pride in what has been built. As much as the body gets tired of being there, always waiting for the next order, the friendliness of the recipient is as or more important than the money in the box at the end of the day. All with a garden full of stories at the entrance. Learn more... https://www.companhiadachanca.pt/en/gentes-detail.php?id=19

FIELD SOUND RECORDING WORKSHOP
August 29th, 10am-12pm and 2-4pm I Chanca
Through a workshop, we will try to record for future memory the landscapes and soundscapes of the town of Espinhal and of the village of Chanca, from the sounds of everyday life, but also their relationship with collective (and individual) memory of places.
The sounds of geophony (nature), but also the sounds of the social (of the inhabitants), from the material and immaterial heritage of places will be subject to recording and editing. Based on this artistic practice and its sound result, a Concerto for Blindfolded Eyes is then presented, either as part of the materialization of the residency process (the other part will be the online edition of the entire archive), or as a link to the community and the contribution made by it.

What is the importance of sound in our daily lives? Is it still, as advocated by Murray Schafer in the 1970s of the last century, the most neglected element of our landscape? Isn't the sound also characterizing the identity of our villages, towns and cities? What is, for example, the sound produced by ants in contact with a microphone? And what about the deer in their seasonal roar? And what about the windmills and water wheels, mixed with the life stories of shepherds and farmers whose hands were calloused by time? It is in an attempt to answer these questions that the concept of Concerto for Blindfolded Eyes arises, based on the premise that we often stop to see, but rarely do so to listen!
The public is invited to blindfold their eyes, allowing other senses to awaken...
