" Une partie de soi " is a vertical crossing that recounts the journey of a life, and shows the individual beyond the acrobat.
Circular and close, in an uncluttered space reduced to the man, the mast and the circle, João Paulo Santos deploys a dense and powerful choreography, made up of refrains and stretched time. As on a bandwidth, without ever touching the ground, he tests his apparatus, and shows the Chinese pole as we rarely see it. Sit down, let yourself go, the body tells you the story of the soul. “With my eyes closed, I observe myself, as if out of my body. From up there, I feel the inner bubbling.” In the vibrant creative state that characterizes his work, João Paulo Santos recounts the journey of a life dedicated to an art that has shaped the flesh and the place in the world of those who practice it. Telling from the inside, taking time, detail and sincerity. By deliberately moving away from his usual physical signature, he deployed a radically different choreographic language, imbued with slowness, suspension, to highlight the density of the material of the movement, as well as that of the unique relationship that binds it to the Chinese pole.
Convened in a circle, the public is invited to a modest ceremony, whose gestures, both powerful and humble, speak to us of lived time and its present trace in itself.
