António Victorino d'Almeida was born in Lisbon on May 21, 1940. He is a Portuguese composer, conductor, pianist and writer. He started from an early age, learning music. At the age of five he composed his first work and at seven he gave his first recital, interpreting works by Mozart and Beethoven and two pieces of his own. Despite being considered a child prodigy, he had a normal childhood. The newspaper “Século Ilustrado”, calling him “Antonito”, considered “his power of interpretation to be wonderful”.
He graduated from the Superior Piano Course at the National Conservatory of Lisbon with a score of 19 and, thanks to a scholarship from the Instituto da Alta Cultura, he went to Vienna, where he graduated in composition, with the highest classification conferred by the Superior School of Music in that city. He received the special award from the Austrian Ministry of Culture for being the best finalist student each year. He took up residence in Vienna, where he lived for two decades. For seven years he held the position of Cultural Attaché at the Embassy of Portugal in Vienna, having received two of the most important decorations awarded by the Presidency of the Republic of Austria.
He has worked in radio and television and as an actor and director in films and television series. In addition to being a concert performer, Victorino d'Almeida is a prolific composer, being one of the Portuguese composers who have produced the most work, covering the most varied musical genres, such as solo music, for piano and other instruments, chamber music, symphonic and choral music, including opera, fado and lots of music for cinema and theatre.
Although he doesn't consider himself to be a real conductor, he has conducted practically all Portuguese orchestras and also some important international orchestras.
Being a born communicator, he manages to captivate all types of audiences, with his friendliness and the intelligence of his words.
